With CrystaSulf, producers and refiners will more easily and cost effectively meet low sulfur requirements.
CrystaSulf breaks the barrier for small to medium scale sulfur removal. Using a proprietary nonaqueous process, gaseous hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is converted to solid crystals of pure elemental sulfur, which can be used as a soil amendment for agricultural use or blended with other sulfur streams. CrystaSulf avoids the chronic problems of plugging, foaming and high chemical costs seen in conventional aqueous liquid redox processes. CrystaSulf has eliminated sulfur solids in the main circulation loop, therefore providing reliable operation at high pressure as well as at atmospheric pressure.
CrystaSulf easily handles gas contaminants (heavy hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, oxygen, ammonia, sulfur dioxide, and others) and has the added benefit of large turndown ratios. CrystaSulf is a cost-effective H2S treating option for natural gas, refinery fuel gas, hydrogen recycle streams in refinery HDS units, Claus tail gas, and other streams.
Direct Treatment of Sour Gas
The recovery of small to moderate quantities of sulfur < 25 tons/day from gas streams has typically been a problem for the industry with available processes proving unreliable and costly to operate. The CrystaSulf process, an innovative new solution for efficient sulfur removal, has achieved what other methods could not. Using a gentle SO2 oxidant, CrystaSulf converts H2S directly into elemental sulfur, which can be recycled as an agricultural soil amendment or easily disposed. This unique approach also prevents the formation of undesirable solids in high-pressure equipment. On top of these obvious improvements in the treatment of sour gas, CrystaSulf operates at a significantly lower cost than previous technologies, making it an ideal solution for sulfur removal problems. HDS Hydrogen Recycle
Because EPA standards demand that motor fuels and refinery downstreams achieve lower sulfur levels, efficient removal of H2S as well as light hydrocarbons from hydrogen streams used in hydrotreating is vital to enabling the hydrotreater to operate efficiently. However, removing these contaminants from the hydrogen often results in loss of valuable hydrogen (through a purge of hydrocarbon contaminants) or may require changes to existing sulfur recovery units (SRU). If current SRU's are already pushed to their limit, making changes to existing technologies can open up additional permitting and operational requirements.
CrystaSulf provides an economical and efficient answer to these shortcomings, providing a one-step, point source solution to incremental sulfur recovery that saves refineries from costly modifications and installations. Additionally, CrystaSulf provides a unique advantage in HDS recycle applications, selectively removing hydrocarbon contaminants from the recycle stream, while easily resisting typical refinery contaminants.
CrystaSulf is able to both purify the recycle stream improving catalyst performance and reduce expensive hydrogen blowdown. This cost-effective solution provides the ideal alternative or replacement for expanding amine/Claus/TGT units currently in use. More information on the HDS Hydrogen Recycling.
Claus Tail Gas Treating
CrystaSulfSM offers a distinct advantage over previous solutions for tail gas treatment: it is able to scrub H2S, SO2 , and sulfur vapor directly from tail gas and converts these directly into sulfur through a simple low-temperature liquid system. This breakthrough solution is also able to reach sulfur recovery rates as high as 99.8% with no recycle streams, while capital and operating costs drop compared to the traditional H2S absorption and recycle methods. In addition, the pure sulfur crystals resulting from the CrystaSulf process can be blended with Claus sulfur. More information on Treating Claus Tail Gas.
